About Google Voice

About Google VoiceGoogle changed the internet ten years ago setting the trend for how people used the world wide web to search for information and how other people could make money from those searches.

Now Google is ready to do it again but this time combining the internet with a device that changed the world in the late 1800's: the telephone.

Google Voice is a communication management system that will help simplify phone use for business by combining the growing technology of the mobile internet with the growing technology of the mobile phone.

With Google Voice, there is one phone number and that phone number is connected to you and not specifically a particular phone.  This makes Google Voice handy especially if you move a lot, change locations, or are just in and out of the office.  People only have to remember one number to reach you and you can decide which of your phones will ring depending upon who is calling.

  • Some pluses of Google Voice include:
  • Call Screening
  • Listen In
  • SMS
  • Phone Routing
  • Voicemail Transcripts
  • Conference Calling
  • Call Record

Call Screening asks for the caller's name if they are an unknown caller or have blocked their Caller ID.  With the Call Screening feature, you won't lose business time by taking unimportant calls.

Listen In allows you to listen to your voicemail as a voicemail message is being left. Similar to Call Screening, you'll know right away if a call is important or whether it can wait until you have the time to call back.

SMS is the basic text message functionality that allows quick communication.  But with Google Voice, text messages can be sent to your Google phone number to then be relayed to any of your mobile phones.  You can then reply from any one of your mobile phones.  Again, this is because your Google Voice number is tied to you and not a particular phone.

Phone Routing allows you to use your Google number for both business and personal calls and you can set up which phones will ring based upon who is calling you.  If it's a family member, you can set it to ring all of your phones: your business line, your home phone, and your mobile phone.  If it's a business caller you can set Google Voice to just ring your business line and mobile phone number, for example.  This is a good privacy measure too because you can keep your mobile phone number and home phone number private since you're routing calls through your Google Voice phone number.

Voicemail Transcripts offered by Google Voice are the written record of your voicemail messages.  Don't have time to listen to your messages?  Just scan through your Voicemail Transcripts for priority messages.  Voicemail Transcripts also is handy in that you can read and save transcribed voicemail messages that contain information such as important dates, names or phone numbers so you don't have to worry about having  a pen readily available to jot down notes.  You also don't have to worry about losing notes because the important information is saved to your Google Voice phone number.

Conference Calling lets you add callers to your current phone call to have a meeting while out on the road and Call Record allows you to record parts of a phone call such as a meeting date or address. If you're not able to write the important information down at that moment, you'll still be able to save that information and play it back when you're ready.

Mobile phones and the internet make your workday more productive.  Google Voice will enhance that productivity and let you telecommute with ease.
