Websites and Politics

websites and politicsAs we learned in the most recent presidential election, websites and politics mix.

They mix beautifully like a perfect cake batter, but only if the proper ingredients are used and added at the right time.  If you miss or alter an ingredient without knowing what you're doing, your cake will fail.

The Democrats get it.

They get the internet, social media, flickr, twitter, all of it.

They simply get it and they use it right.

They learned from the successes of Barack Obama's website and they learned from the mistakes that were made with Hillary Clinton's website and web strategy.

Barack Obama's new media campaign had its finger on the pulse of the internet and brought it to new heights.  All campaign web developers and new media specialists should be studying the evolution of Barack Obama's website to gain a greater understanding of how to use a website properly for political and social campaigns.

The Republicans lagged behind but are catching up now.  They are trying to reach a wider audience with the redesign of the GOP website.  They've added different features to their website in order to grow their base with developers and bloggers.  But is it as simple as redesigning the website or is it something deeper that the Republicans need to reconnect with their base?  They've made a good start at changing the website but now they need to listen to their members  --not the ones in Washington, mind you--  to find out what their members need from them so that they can reconnect and regrow their party.
